It was released on November 17, 2014 as the fifth single from the album by RCA Records. Produced by Dr. Luke, Cirkut, Michael "Freakin" Everett and Lifted, the song marks the second collaboration by Pitbull and Ne-Yo, following "Give Me Everything" (2011). It became Pitbull's most successful single from Globalization, reaching number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. "Time of Our Lives" also went to number one on the US Dance charts.
